This 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 is finished in Grabber Orange over white knit vinyl bucket seats and is powered by its matching-numbers 429ci Boss V8 paired with a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission. The car was built in December 1969 at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan plant and originally delivered to Marcel Gauthier Auto Ltée of Sorel, Quebec, Canada. The car was imported to the United States in 2015 and now carries a clean Florida title. Equipment includes the Drag Pack, 3.91 Traction-Lok rear axle, competition suspension, power steering, power front disc brakes, console, tachometer with trip odometer, electric clock, and AM radio.
According to the accompanying Deluxe Marti Report, this Mustang was built in December 1969 at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan plant and ordered under DSO 872500 (Special Order). It was optioned with the Drag Pack, Traction-Lok differential, competition suspension, power steering, front disc brakes, and tachometer with trip odometer, among other features.
The Boss 429 Mustang was produced only for 1969 and 1970 in limited numbers to homologate Ford’s semi-hemispherical 429 V8 for NASCAR competition, making it one of the most collectible Mustangs ever built.
The matching-numbers engine features semi-hemispherical aluminum cylinder heads, forged internals, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and was factory rated at 375 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Because of the engine’s size, Ford contracted Kar Kraft in Brighton, Michigan to modify Mustang bodies to accommodate the large powerplant.
Exterior
This example is finished in Grabber Orange (Code U) and features the distinctive styling cues associated with Boss 429 Mustangs including a functional hood scoop, black grille with Mustang emblem, chrome front and rear bumpers, and a Fastback SportsRoof body style. The car retains the aggressive stance characteristic of the Boss 429 platform.
Interior
The cabin is trimmed in white knit vinyl bucket seats (Trim Code TW) with a black dashboard and woodgrain trim. Equipment includes a center console, Hurst four-speed shifter, deluxe steering wheel, AM radio, electric clock, and a tachometer with trip odometer. The interior retains the classic Mustang twin-pod dashboard design with round instrumentation.
Drivetrain
Power is supplied by its matching-numbers Boss 429 cubic-inch V8 paired with a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission. The engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 3.91 Traction-Lok differential. Factory drivetrain and performance equipment includes the Boss 429 V8, four-speed manual transmission, Drag Pack, 3.91 Traction-Lok rear axle, competition suspension, power steering, and power front disc brakes.
